2 The Design Principle of Castle Towns in Japan, Ecopolis
Keywords: Vista (link to mountain)/ Topography / Environmental Symbiosis/

Japanese Castles Towns were designed and constructed with outstanding characteristics in relation to the histories of town/city constructions all over the world.

Most of Japanese cities had a common starting point as a Castle Town, and these underwent various transformations after the Meiji period.

In Castle Town research, we apply the context method to the modernisation of local cities.

We have undertaken analysis by comparing various cities, and have come to an understanding of structures from using a database of more than 100 cities in Japan.

Recently, we have been approaching the methodology of reading urban space from the viewpoint of urban design.

Ecopolis Research is an application of the logics of Castle Town Research to small cities and the local area level.

Ecopolis is research for approaching the ecological local community planning associated with the natural conditions (geographical feature and climate), life styles, and businesses of the local people.
